Cutting freight quote turnaround from 90 minutes to 15 with a Chrome extension built from scratch.
Every client quote required manually checking four carrier websites, converting currencies, and calculating net rates by hand. I built a Chrome extension that does all of it in one click.
The situation
One quote, four websites, ninety minutes.
Every client quote at FreightBox meant visiting four separate carrier websites (Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, CMA CGM, and MSC) one by one. Someone had to note the all-in rate on each, manually calculate the net rate by deducting destination and import charges (often converting AED, INR, or EUR to USD by hand), then compose a quote message from scratch. One quote took upwards of 90 minutes.
What I did
Defined the quoting logic, designed the interface, and built the entire extension myself.
Cross-site rate capture
A single popup that works across all four carrier sites at once: search a route, click capture, and the extension reads the rate breakdown directly off the page.
Reverse-engineered carrier scrapers
Each carrier renders completely differently, including shadow DOMs and dynamically-loaded single-page apps. Built a dedicated scraper for each, from scratch, off live HTML.
Automatic net-rate calculation
All-in rate minus destination and import charges, converted to USD in real time. The same maths the team used to do by hand.
Ranked comparison
Once captured, all four carriers' net rates are ranked side by side, so the cheapest option is obvious at a glance.
One-click WhatsApp quote
Generates a formatted quote message, ready to paste into WhatsApp.
The results
90 minutes down to 15, and it's used every day.
What used to take up to 90 minutes now takes about 15, an 83% cut in quote turnaround. The freight operations team uses it every day for every client rate query.
